Caution. Scalding hot!

Updated: Apr 23

Here's one I see all the time. My finger is pointing to a Temperature Pressure Relief Valve which is designed to release water if the pressure in the Hot Water Tank ever exceeds max values. In a proper installation there will be a plastic tube connected to the valve that will pipe the hot water towards the floor/drain. In this setup (seen in the picture) if the TPRV was to release, scalding water would spray into the air and potentially onto someone. Since children have been known to play with things they are not supposed to, this can create a scary accident. If you have small children be sure to have the valve properly connected to the drain tube.
